Create a publication

At the core of UV-CMS is the concept of "publications" as building blocks of content. The flexibility of the system allows the definition of different types of publications, tailored to the specifics of each specific project. These types are configured in a special file adapted to the needs of the specific platform. Examples of such types include news, blog posts, classifieds, career opportunities and documents, but the possibilities are not limited to these. Each post type can be customised with a unique set of input fields, reflecting the varied requirements of different content types. This modular structure provides both flexibility in content creation and efficiency in its management and presentation.

Main fields of the publication

When you create a new post, the system automatically loads the basic fields preconfigured for the selected content type. These are shown in the "Text" and "Meta" tabs.

The only required field is "Title". The "slug" field in the Meta tab is automatically generated based on the title, but can be customized as needed. The "slug" represents a unique identifier in your page URL. It is usually short, descriptive and easy-to-read text that improves SEO and URL readability.

Tab "Text"

It contains the basic elements that form the essence of your publication.

The "Title" serves as a key identifier of the content, appearing prominently in the post itself, in announcements and when shared on social networks. It plays a crucial role in grabbing readers' attention.

"Category" allows you to categorize your post, making it easier to navigate and organize content. Depending on the system settings, headings can be manually selected, entered as free text or automatically defined.

The "Lead" field provides flexibility in the presentation of the content, allowing the inclusion of only a brief summary or to include the entire publication. In the former case, the author can add additional "Text" supplements.

To clearly indicate authorship, the system offers two options: 'Author list' allows selection from among registered users of the site, while the'Author' field allows entering additional information or specifying external authors.

Tab "Meta"

Contains elements primarily focused on search engine optimization (SEO) and technical page setup. These fields, while usually invisible to the end user, play an important role in the indexing and performance of your content in search results.

Main fields in the Meta tab:

  1. Meta title: Page title visible in search results.
  2. Meta description: A brief description of the content displayed under the title in search engines.
  3. Slug: Unique identifier in the page URL.
  4. JS or CSS: A field to add specific scripts or styles for the specific page.

For user convenience, the system automatically populates these fields with optimized content if they are not entered manually. This provides basic SEO even without additional intervention.

If you wish, you can change these fields to maximize the SEO and technical performance of your content.

Additional fields and buttons

After the initial save of the post, additional fields and buttons specific to the project appear. These elements are pre-defined in the system configuration, providing flexibility and compliance with the requirements of different content types.

  1. Options - dates and other additional fields
  2. Cover photo - choice of lead photo
  3. Analyse - information about the publication
  4. Preview - opening the publication for review
  5. Button "Eye" - indicates whether the post is active or not
  6. Buttons for adding add-ons
  7. Choice of the language version of the publication if the project is multilingual

Options tab

The Options tab contains fields for managing the time aspects of your publication:

"Date of publication" shows when content was created, but also allows scheduling of future posts. By setting a date and time in the future, you can schedule exactly when the post becomes visible on the site. It's important to note that in order to activate this mechanism, the post must be marked as "Active" via the "eye" button.

"Date of revision" is a useful field for transparency. It allows you to indicate when content has been updated, which is especially important for dynamic or frequently updated material.

"Date of deactivation" provides control over the publication lifecycle. Through this field you can set when content is automatically disabled, which is useful for temporary listings or seasonal content.

There may be additional fields depending on the specific project.

Tab "Cover photo"

The Cover photo tab provides options for the visual presentation of your publication:

The "lead photo" serves as the main visual element, presenting the content in different sections of the site. It plays an important role in capturing readers' attention and establishing a first impression.

"Share image" allows you to optimize visual content when sharing on social networks. This option allows you to select a different image from the lead photo if you wish to accentuate a specific aspect when distributing content online.

For convenience, the tab automatically collects all images used in the post. This allows you to quickly select a suitable cover or share photo without the need to re-upload. If you don't make a manual selection, the system will automatically use the first added photo as the cover.

Additionally, you have the option to upload a completely new image specifically designed for the cover that may not appear in the main content of the post.

Tab "Analyse"

The Analyse tab provides insight into the SEO aspects and performance of your publication. Here you can see how your content will look in search results and when shared on social networks.

The section contains links to useful external online resources for more detailed SEO analysis, helping you to identify areas for improvement and monitor the effectiveness of your content. Key SEO metrics are also provided, including keyword information, content structure, and technical aspects of optimization.

It is important to note that the full set of analytical data only becomes available once the publication is active online.

Overview and activation

The "Preview"button gives you the opportunity to preview your post before its official activation. This feature is available regardless of the status of the post, allowing you to evaluate how the content will look in a real-world environment. This is particularly useful for fine-tuning the layout, checking the correct placement of elements and ensuring optimal presentation of your material.

The activation of the publication for the general public is controlled via the "eye" button. When this button glows green, it means that the content is ready for publication. To make the post visible to users and indexable by search engines, simply press the "eye" button to activate it (turn it green), and be sure to save your changes. After these steps, your post will be fully accessible online, ready to reach your target audience and be found by search engines.

This two-step review and activation process provides complete control over the quality and timing of your content publishing, allowing you to present your material in its best light.

If a caching module is enabled for the project, it is possible that the post will not become visible immediately after activation. Caching is a technique to improve site performance, but it can cause a delay in displaying new content. In such a case, the post will appear after the preset caching period has expired.

To immediately display the new or updated post, you may need to manually clear the cache. If you do not take this step, the content will become visible automatically after the set cache period has expired.

Important: To be accessible to users and indexed by search engines, a post must meet two basic criteria - a combination of a correctly set date and an active status. First, the publication date must not be set in the future - it must match the current date or be in the past. Second, the post must be marked as "active," which is indicated by the green color of the "eye" button. Only when these two conditions are met will your content become visible online.
